Administering a child care center requires a multitude of skills and insight, so a solid basic resource for this purpose should feature indepth discussions of all sector’s of running such an establishment. Although Sciarra, Dorsey, and Lynch’s book covers several administrative and managerial realms, I found it lacking a bit in the area of explaining the nuts and bolts of the importance of procedures.

All of the chapters were well structured, but somewhat abbrieviated in their content. For example, accreditation in Chapter 4 receives a scant two paragraphs. I was hoping to see a more thorough comparison between the two regulatory ideas. Chapter 5 also was a bit short on its descriptions of the different organizational structures for child care centers and how to set them up.

Here’s the high point though: there’s not a whole lot more missing from this text. Other than the aforementioned details, I found it an excellent read. The langauge is easy to understand, and the graphic organizations were quite useful in summarizing ideas.

Even though I prefer Decker, Decker, Freeman, and Knopf’s text as a primary text, I would definitely use this as a supplementary text.

    It’s worth getting…even for $102.00 :)

Thank you for sending the book in ample time, but I didn’t realize that there was a cd and another small book that came with the book; you didn’t mention it either. Nevertheless, thank you for taking care of the main book.

This book is such a great resource for existing or future directors. This book explains everything a director has to do as well as giving you some of the forms in the book to use.

This is the book if you are serious about the profession. I highly recommend this book as a student at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix,Arizona. I have had the privilage of being able to experience some of being a director for the past year.
